for hip hop n r'n'b arent u better with the 12's as they'd give deeper bass?

not necessarily, i find my 12 too slow for music with quick bass but as i say its personal choice isnt it, best thing is to listen to the subs your interested in then decide.

generally:
8" & 10" tight notes, like r'n'b, hip hop stuff.
12" & 15" more for dance n trance music
Sealed boxes would give you tight accurate bass
Vented boxes give u a lower bass response
I'd PERSONNALY knowing all this go for two tens in a sealed box

u want 10-12 for dance, 15's are too slow to shift to faster songs

not necessariyl its all down to box design....
my dad has a JL 8W7 in a small sealed enclosure, its VERY tight and punchy but doesnt drop that low.
another guy i knpow has a 8W7 identical in JL's ported box, and it really dropslow, much lower than my 12...
as i say themajority of the sound is in the box type sealed, ported bandpass etc.. and box volume.
