Car is in garage today being looked at & they say the leak from the rack was caused because there was too much PAS fluid in the system, as it was overfilled... or too much oil in the rack, one or the other...
first off - is this even possible??
secondly will it cause a leak from the union bolt where the column goes into the rack?? (the silver bolt on the underside of the rack facing the floor - can be seen if car is jacked up)
not too sure on there explinations... and as i know fook all about power steering systems - thought I best check first!

dunno the answer.
my original thought was that it's good they're being honest and not saying that you need a new rack so they can get the work, but on second thoughts theyt may be saying it's just that to hide the fact something does need replacing and they don't want to do the work.

well they had the car up on the ramps when I got there & explained everything & showed me too
as the PAS was overfilled, the fluid was leaking out of the seals on the rack, as when you steer, the fluid goes up & down to balance the pressure, but as it couldnt do that it came out of the weakest spot! said he checked the seals over after draining some fluid & said there ok now but take it back in a week to make sure
also said it could of been the cause to the 'moo' noises when steering

take it back in a week if it's still leaking.

usually pas systems have a hole in the filler cap (very small hole) to release pressure. So yes if it was overfilled then yes it could leak out of the hole as for blowing the seals on the rack i doubt it!
