1) whats the best xc fork for around £200?
2) when upgrading to hydraulic discs individually do you agree its more logical to buy a rear one first?
cheers?

no, get a front first... dont go for hope xc 4 pots as they are shit and over heat.

get an open system, not a closed one like the xc hopes.

when i got mine (hayes HFX-9 8"),i got them as a set but id definatly get the front first as u can practically brake as hard as u want and still grip and still stop, whereas with just a rear you will be lockin it up all the time (like me! :thumbs because there will be no weight at the back, also get a bigger disc up front than rear because through experiance having an 8"/200mm disc on the rear is totally overkill!! Definatly get the front first or you will regret it, trust me!
for the fork, try the 2004 Manitou Black Elite £179.99 from chain reaction cyles.com it comes with either 100mm or 120mm of travel, and looks well cool too,

Hope that helps

remember that the XC4's were lightweight XC brakes not ment for downhill. they are very good at the job they were designed to do. I've never had a problem with mine and thats teh original 150mm discs not the increased size you can get. if I was getting hope discs now I'd get the Mono M4. not sure they do a closed system anymore on their discs any more.

check out http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ for forks and discs

Don't get Rock Shox stuff. You are just paying for a red whit and black sticker. It's kind of like buying a BMW really.
Get the front disk brake first. Where ever possible, stay away from any form of rim brake what so ever, especially on the rear! Get open system disk brakes. Four pot on the front and 2 pot on the rear. Big disk on the front, somall on the rear...

Yep, I have Super T's. A litle old now, but they are amazing, far more reliable than the Boxxers I had, and the Pace Moster 150's They cost loads less too
