erm i have done a lot of miles in my car recently and it had started to sound ruff so the other day i decided to check the oil.
found that it had nearly none in it
topped it up but put a bit too much in it opps
then after driving for about 6miles changing up around 2.2k i changed up around 4k and bamb i look out my rear window and see a huge load of white smoke
now it smokes with the gas more gas more smoke
whats the odds its burning off the excess oil
and when i say a bit of smoke (read "cars behind me cant see")
thanks

happened to me in the old corsa as I over filled it...
drain out some of the oil & fill to full carefully
then start the engine & leave it running, the smoke your getting now is oil in the exhaust system... it will clear, but take a while!

Black smoke = oil burning
White smoke = wather burning (steam)
Grey smoke = fuel burning (Running rich)
i'd say have a look at your coolant level, could be head gasket gone...

Sounds like head gasket to me. Is there any blue smoke in there at all?
Blue smoke - Oil
Black smoke - Fuel
White ploomy smoke - Water

doesnt seem bluey but could me being a bit blind.
i drove it down the road today and seemed a bit better.
I changed the oil (to the correct level
(with the help of a scafolding pole to undo the nut)
still a bit smokey when i idled the car before i topped it up at the end.
the coolant level isnt going down and engine isnt heating up that fast wouldnt they be signs of head gasket?.
annoyingly its mot runs out on sat guessing it wont pass if it is chucking out smoke
