i'm going to get a new fone tonight but need to make sure this will be able to use MP3 as ringtones.

It's not the network that prevents the ringtones being set. It's the phone software. If it's a vodafone branded phone then it's still no.
I think

Yep but the locking of the phone to the network and the software that the phone uses is two different things. If you flashed your firmware to remove the vodafone branding and make it a vanila 6630 then you should be able to use the .mp3 ringtone. Unless there is software now that converts the .mp3 files into a protected content file the phone accepts. (again similar to the drm packager for SE phones)

Yeah maybe, sometimes the alternative network version of a phone has different features. O2 are pretty good and rarely mess with features. However I'm not sure about that particular phone. Have you tried asking on the what mobile or howard forums?

hangon have you tried converting the .mp3 files to .acc files. (have to find a convertor) I've just read that these can then be used as ringtones.
dbpoweramp will convert

ok did you try the sony drm packager previously mentioned. (might only work with SE phones) but does change any .mp3 into a protected content file.
If not I'm outta ideas, either you get an 02 version, find a convertor soloution, put up with it or flash the phone and remove the vodafone branding

Just get the 6630. There's already a Symbian SW that will set an .MP3 as a ringtone.
