actually the steering wheel in my sisters old 205 was well nice so will probably keep is.
U should try and keep the standard exhaust system as it was specifiaclly made for it to work at high level of performance with the the gti's

i fucking love these cars, i used to have a 1.4 XS and as vibs stated they still handle very well!!
Once the xe is in the corsa, im gunna be saving to find a minter, and subtley mod it like the one on page one, so many nice aftermarket bumpers you can get for them, and they still look built from the factory

this one is standard apart from bilstein suspension, BBR star chip and scoipon system
not as fast as a xe'd corsa in a stright line but round the bends and a track it would have one easy
now tempted buy it as its one of the mintest ones around and all my mate wants for it is £1200
never liked them before i drove one
don;t even need to be a GTi. the 1.4 my friend has handles amazingly
i agree with this, my diesel loved corners

^^^^^ That is how they should be done...its such a classic shape...apart fomr tiny changes...suspension...wheels etc I think they should be left well alone...
Lovely looking cars as standard...

i fail to understand the people in this thread that are known to flame 106 gtis saying they love 206gti's, 106 gtis handle equally as well, and are as fast as the 1.9gti if not a bit quicker, but yet according to some of the peeps in this thread they are crap

this post as said above is about proper 80's hot hatches, and IMO the best hot hatch bar the mk1 golf 1.8 GTI
the 106 gti and 206 gti are late 90's warm hatches thay will never recapture the lates 80's cars

Exactly what he said...^^^
These types of car are not made anymore...yeah you get some good modern hot hatches with there computer aided driving etc...but back in the 80's these were real seat of your pants driving cars...no computer aids etc...and until you have driven one you will never understand what I mean...they were truely like a Go-Kart for the road...
Its sad but we will never see the likes of the 205 1.9gti...Mk1 Golf GTI and Clio Williams ever again...

this is the same reason i bought a mk2 uno turbo, knowone is ever gonna produce a car thats the dangerous with that type of engine in it again
this is what i love about that periode
every manufacture was going all out to beat each other, pug had to get 300cc more to try and beat VW, Fiat, MG and renualt were keeping small block motors but sticking turbos on them
then vauxhall blew them all away with the 20XE in the top speed stakes

My girlfriends dad scrapped one of these. It was the 1.6 one but still well nice.
It was practically dead but for £25 it would have been worth it. Could have fixed it up and had fun or split it. It had the original wheels in good condition too!

Don't forget crappy old RS Turbos mate
80's stuff aint got nothing on 70's hardware - i.e. RS 2000, RS 1800 (if you were rich), Mexico, Lotus Sunbeam, Chevette HS, & HSR (if you could find one) and all RWD
