The reason the XE has a apparent power boost at 4k is down to the the cams, SFi box and inlet all design to sing the same tune.
And you have to stay between 4 and 6.5k to make the XE work it's best.
In a lardy astra they aren't that fast. infact a std GSI vs a astra redtop was faily even till 90 when the longer legs showed.

I find the most annoying thins abotu the XE is in 5th falling off 4k on th emotorway, its dead down there, and you have to drop to 4th

F16cr and F20cr have the same ratios. The F20 is on the 20XE's and the F16cr is from th ecav SRi130's.
The only possible difference is the final drive ratio, but you can get the F20 with the same range of finals. always worth checking what the box has in it. The higher the better of accel, and small for long legs.

Well put j1400 i was just about to post about the cams and inlet.

I love the power i really do, its useable, faster than clio 16v and many other cars that will still cost much more than a corsa xe.
Let power is for that OMFG factor, this is silly but i loove it! Which is what im doing!
I drive my car possibly 5k miles a year so i can risk the breakdown problems, at the end of the day its all experience and knowledge!

They are only as unreliable when people dont' take care of them, pre-emptive maintaince is better than only fix when its broke. Half the problems people seem to have is from poor conversion, or lack of maintance and care for it.

XE's for the money are great, but hold out for the duratecs one of those ina corsa

straight line speed is pretty boring, think you want to go out and abuse some twisties, then you'll probably find a diff and gearbox would be a better spend of money before you stick a LET in there
