pull the bottom rad hose off and then remove the header tank cap.... to completely flush the rad you will need to remove it...

jesus snap i have to take mine out later today... unless i'm very mouch mistaken its located were the top rad hose joints the engine... you will have to unbolt the metal pipe.... make sure u have some instant gasket before you start...

go down to the motor factors today and ask for a thermostat for you car and a tube of instant gasket... it shouldnt be more than £15
|

If your just changing the coolant use the valve thats located on the thermostat housing. Just unscrew it and the coolant will start pouring out.
Then pour water in the header tank so it runs through the system, and flushes all the old coolant out.
Screw the valve back up, then put some fresh stuff in.

some cars dont have that bleed valve...

easier method & better...
remove the header tank cap (on coolant bottle)
remove the fam temp switch (when facing the engine from the front of the car, its the bottom-left of the radiator), has a 2-wire plug attached & think a 18mm socket will do...
remove the top-hose from radiator to engine
then just flush it all through with a hose pipe till the water comes out clear
if you just remove the bottom-hose & flush/fill from the header cap, then loads of crap will still remain in the radiator as it wont flush through as while the engine is cold the thermostat is closed so will only flush about 1/3 or the coolant system...
doing it by removing the fan switch & top hose will flush through about 3/4 the system...
if you are also removing the thermostat, you can then flush the engine fully, then get a new sealing-ring from vauxhall (only 98p) as the 16v's dont use a gasket so-to-speak. but using some instant silicon-gasket-sealer aswell as the ring will be even better!
then just do it all back up & re-fill the coolant till its sorted!

thermostat is located bottom-left of this picture, where the coolant hose comes from the radiator to the engine (looks like an back-to-front S shape)...
remove the top-hose & unbolt the thermostat housing, will just pull off & give access to the thermostat..
3 torx-bolts hold it in...
