for the past few weeks (im a lazy lazy person) my car has been idling like crazy. the problems started a few months ago when my revs would drop straight after id turn my engine on. so i clean my icv and all was good for about 2 weeks.

then it revved like crazy and my em light came on telling me the icv was fooked. took it out had a play, it worked, so i put it back in. start the engine and it was perfect again. then as soon as i touch the throttle it revved high again. was told it was prob sticking, so i sprayed the throttle bodie with a load of wd40 and all was good again.

However, its now gay whenever i slow down to idle after ive been driving quick. if i but the lcuthc down and just brake to a stop itll stall. if i go throught the gear its more likley to be alright, but if i idle for too long itll decide to rev up to 3000rpm and mong around there for a while.

sometimes i dont even have to be idling itll just fancy revving a bit higher

wots the problem? i reackon my icvs fine despite everything kinda pointing to it? i reackon it may be my afm, can i clean this or test it or anythign?

could it be anything else? air leak or something someone said

thank u all please. hope the essay ddint put u off

This is why I bought that air flow metre. Mines revs between 500 nd 1500 revs on idle. only intermittant (sp) tho and mine cuts out when you go form speed to idle straight away. air flow metre made no difference to mine.

ps i dont get a EM light tho

Coolant temp sensor, i has very similar symptoms last week, check the wiring to the icv and the CTS too as mine was basically chewed up and was earthing out.

i've had a weird idle speed lately.
800 when cold, then reaching up to a steady 1600 when warm.

got under it to take off the icv and give it a clean, and noticed it wasn't even plugged in.

must have forgot to plug in the connector when i had the head off.
plugged back in and jobs a goodun. 1200 when cold, 800 warm.

cts is about £16
icv is about £90 iirc.

cts is easier to get to, so check and clean the connection. bit of wd40 in the connector.
icv is a pig to reach. can be cleaned if it's dirt thats the problem. get under the car and its attached to the bottom of the inlet manifold.

it's just like a copper rod. you could clean it, but i can't see the benefit in all honesty.
i'd check/clean the connection and inspect the wiring.

also check the connections made in the car to the corsa loom, if the conections are shit then there will be extra resistance which will confuse the ecu of the temp and will open the icv more. try and get a volt meter on the wire coming from the CTS, let the engine get cold, then turn on the ignition and test the signal wire from the CTS (blue with brown trace i think) it shoud be somewhere between 2 and 3 volts depending on the temperature.
