Nothing, unless you get a pre-ecotec GSi, in which case it has 3bhp more

if both engines were in the same condition then the gsi preecotec is slightly better. But probably wouldnt account for anything in a race

Really?
I know two people with apparently 1.4 16v engines. One is big, and has the ecotec logo, and one is thinner (looks like a long 1.2 8v) without the ecotec logo. The lad with the thin engine claims its a pre ecotec 1.4 16v - so is he wrong? What engine is his?

Ignoring the engine "differences", GSi looks better and has ABS.
1.6 Sports typically have a better electric pack so you get electric and heated mirrors, electring windows, etc.
Get a Sport, fit a GSi kit and pay more attention when braking.

Probably the 1.4 8v. its easy to tell if its the 16v, it'll have the four branch inlet manifold for a start...

Suppose it would being an Ecotec GSi. Didn't think of that!
Twin airbags? Are you getting confused with your breasts?

No Probably about it! It IS a 1.4 8v if it looks slightly like a 1.2 8v...
What Year is this alleged Pre-ecotech engine?? i'f the car is a SRI unless it's a late 1995 model It's DEFFINATELY an 8v....
also ask him his engine code if he knows it, C14SE is the Engine code for the 1.4 8v SRi's
