yea, i want a carputer, so id just do this at the same time. If i can find suitable software, as it could never do that mayself, ill go for it

do a google on ecu diagnostic boards - ive only briefly looked into this, as like i said, was looking at doing a grahpical lcd clocks ages ago.
however, unless you can sort out the mileage problem, then what ever you do it will be illegal, plus im not 100% sure if its MOT worthy, even if you could get around the mileage problem.
Eitherway, simple setup would be a carpc with a dualhead graphics card (one for the pc/media/app side and the other output for the VGA screen for the clocks - as i believe clocks must be shown at all times?). Then ECU dongle connects to the ECU connector under the bonnet, then to the serial port on pc. Then write your own application to recieve information you need/want and display it somehow etc etc
