All i know is that K&N have won awards and stuff for their filters and knowledge, it says so on the boxes i have, plus there's a little offical looking stamp so they have to be the best.
don't believe check out these reviews
http://www.knfilters.com/feedback.htm
an example:
Greetings from London
After hearing about K&N from mechanic cousins and seeing the units in computer games like Xbox Juiced , I decided to try K&N out for myself. I have a Mercedes 1997 C180 1.8L which is now a different car thanks to K&N smooth acceleration, better response ,easier in stop start traffic and engine doesn't splutter CANNOT BELIEVE THIS, you must try K&N air filters , truly simple and amazing, oh and more BHP!!!!!

pipercross are better than k&n as they use a foam which filters better than a cotton gauze k&n use and it doesn't need such regular servicing.
u2u Dannie, she works for them
