Goin to uni in a couple of weeks.
Need to buy a laptop, what's better you think? Dell or a Sony VAIO? For both looks and performance...
Or what else would you suggest?

Id go with the Dell personally (out of those 2) as the sony your paying mostly for just the name and the looks

OK, cheers.
If you were to pick any laptop, not just Sony or Dell would you still go Dell?

I've got a Sony Vaio. It served me very well for college and stuff and now does me well for anything else I need it too. Although as said it was quite expensive compaired to others I've seen since but I think it's great.

Hewlett Packard/Compaq - look very smart - similar to IBM, but cheaper. A few of them come with fingerprint recognition etc for around £600, take a look on www.ebuyer.co.uk. Dell function well, but look a bit too boring IMO - probably cos I work with PCs and a lot of them are Dells which are v good mind (servers and such like) - Sony VAIO range, overpriced, fashion accessory TBH. If you want an impressive laptop look at the tablet PCs where you can swivel the moitor round etc touch screen.
