Err.... if you dont drive you dont pay fuel duty....
Do non drivers pay more tax in other areas as a result of not driving.... no.
Fuel duty is everything to do with the price of petrol not nothing!

at the end of the day the petrochemical industry are not earninin much more per litre, maybe 0.5p more than they were 3 years ago, it's all government tax. Also that original idea would not work due to the fact that Esso, Shell, BP etc tend too buy thier base fuel from the same supplier then blend their own additives at the petrol stations so hitting one company would not result in fuel prices being reduced.

Robbo here, it has NOTHING to do with it essentially, if not charged on petrol it will be charged elsewhere, Im sure that 99% of all households in the UK have a car that they fill up with petrol on a regular basis... but I see your point and yes, for the samll %age of non-drivers then they pay less tax but u cud also say the same for duty on fags for non-smokers, alcohol for non-drinkers etc, at the end of the day it affects the majority

Thats so untrue it unbelievable... its not the government pushing the price of petrol up (well u cud argue that in a round-about way they are!) its the companies as they are paying more for barrels of oil Also bare in mind that BP make over £25m a day! Esso et al aren't much further behind...

Its crazy. We are on 95.9p for unleaded and 98.9p for diesel here.
The optimax fuels are well into the pound values, all they did was move the decimal.

I have seen a local station now selling both at 99.9p
Yes I suspect most will just drop the .9p element :S

Its tax. Most of it.
What is the petrol, 17p a litre or something.
What excuse do they have for charging more for diesel.
They didn't even have anything to do with diesel before the diesel engine was invented.
Thats a joke as it costs less to refine.

Robbo speaks sense.. Im glad someone here does! We pay more on fuel but less elsewhere, its all relative!
Besides the UK as a nation DOES NOT need cheap petrol prices, we live in a tiny country! Countries such as the US and Australia put less tax on fuel as their industries that need lots of transport would be crippled by prices like we pay; its really not too much of a problem comparitively for us.
