Wouldn't have the Focus cos I dont like the interior or styling personally.
Would have to be the Golf or Astra for me but I wouldnt have a 1.8 20v without a turbo

Diesels aren't as bad as they used to be for being noisey but I've not heard one that sounds anywhere near as good as a petrol engine

turbo diesels dont sound all that bad, in mine u can hear the turbo go and stuff which drowns out the rattle's but when ure sitting on idle it can sound quite shit but its worth it when your fuel bill has been halfed, thats more beer money

it is, its group 15, and i can get a 115bhp diesel, revo it to 150bhp and still pay GP10 insurance for a faster, more economical car

i had a Golf GTTDI (110BHP) with a turning box on and i kept up with my mates 1.8t 20v on a number of sprints.. just lacked the top end, i would suggest you go and test drive a golf deisel just to answer your question regarding the noise. im sure you will be impressed.. Golf for me for sure.. lots of car for good money.
