because I was using an aperture of f2.8 this makes the depth of field small

Wide aperture to make the most of available light, but the downside is less depth of field so only exactly what you focus on is in focus, objects closer or further away are not, which IMO works well here. The singer isn't sharp but thats more due to motion blur, which I also like.
