I was going to do this ages ago. when i was 14..
Then i realised how much dust would get on the components, how noisy it would be, and how it would look with cables all over the shop.

judging by your age i guess it will be in your bedroom....exactly how many people are going to see it other than yourself to think its 'cool'?
Why would I care if anyone else sees it? Im doing it because I think it looks cool and I think its a cool project.
similar reasons as to why anyone would decorate their room!

Yea, but the towers get pretty dusty too! The fans on the drives will be turned off (just there to look a bit better) the powersupply and processer fan are pretty quiet
It looks a mess at the mo, but will be tidied up a lot, most of the cables will be hidden!

I know a lad who just had a PC set up in his desk drawer. IT was pretty good, but despite having ventilation holes and fans, it still ran wayyy too hot.
Good Idea tho.
The wall would look pretty good if you could mount it on a box sort of thing, and run the cables under the box and out of view. You also need to look at more acoustically efficient components.

This is a box probably isnt very clear from the pic! All cables will hide behind!
I would have it watercooled but its serious £££ and i would rather just put up with the little noise it makes

Dont be too hasty to think water coolings too expensive. Theres some very good and cheap kits on the market, and a little UV dye in the coolant would look amazing at night with a UV cathode

Spent another couple of hours on it tonight...
All the cables are now hidden in the small cavity behind!
Next task is to make some brackets to hold the perspex up

Not really a computing person but i must say thats a cool idea and looks like it will be pretty smart. Might be worth putting some sort of lighting in with it neon if u wish but maybe more effective with just a white strip light to light it and the room. Just an idea.

The power supply is earthed.
The outside of the psu case will all be an earth.
That could in theory run warmer than in a case because there is no airflow over it.
Prob not though.
Maplin have a water cooling kit for about 60 quid atm but its no better than air.
Take it your not planning adding an optical drive?

If he mounted a few case fans to blow air over the system, t wouldnt be too bad, but it would probably run too warm without a case

I have a usb2 enclosure for my dvd writer which will sit on my desk.
Thanks, I figured everything is earthed to the psu case in a normal pc, so I'll do that!
cheers!
