My oil light came on earlier as i was braking hard on a tight corner on a slip road off the m2, it was only on for a second then went off and i didnt see it again. Should I worry?

it does it my corsa occasionally when the oil is less than half full, figured it out as it being the oil thrown to the uther side of the sump therefore making the oil pressure sender tell you your out of oil, just check it and top it up,should be fine

must just be low and when braking hard oil runs away from oil sensor and flashes on!

hmmm yeah actually, might just put a drop in there, bring it up about 3mm, should do the trick, if its low it will bring it up reasonably but not bring it over the max

how often do you check your under bonnet levels?
Have you ever looked at another dipstick in another 106? I find it hard to see how a dipstick will get twisted unless it is supposed to be like that from standard. If I'm correct I think they probably are. I work with all manner of different makes and models of cars, have checked oil and water levels in nearly all of the current mainstream models. Check the handbook that came with your car if you aren't sure what to do. I ignored an oil warning light on my Mini when I had it, didn't take long for a main bearing shell to spin and my crankshaft to snap. Also I know of someone who poured 5 litres of oil into her car when the oil light came on, knackered the engine because it hyrdraulic'd it.
Also are you sure it was the oil light? If you let the brake fluid level drop too far it may also flash a light up when braking/cornering hard.
Check all of your levels, its cheaper to prevent a problem than to repair it and I say that from experience.

To be honest if your not sure about the oil, drop the lot out, change the filter, fill back up with reccomended amount in hand book. Then check, and top up more if required.
For the sake of your engine its worth it!

will find the handbook in a minute and go have a gander at the car, it hasnt flashed since, may have had something to do with the fact is was braking fairly hard as C6DSY said

I went sideways on a patch of snow last week un-expectadly and my light flashed on then. i checked y level and it was only about a third of what it should have been So promptly went to vaux and got more oil!

When going sideways don't be surprised if the light does come on. That is one reason why rally cars are dry sumped.
