Just finished building my PC and I want to try my hardest to keep it free from any viruses/trojans/spyware.

But I need a codec pack to watch videos etc.

Are these safe to download?

I was looking at this one.....

Don't install any codec packs.
Codec packs are bad

Is that a media player in itself?

Or does it just work alongside Windows Media Player?

It works just like a codec except it plays everything.
Only things it won't play are real and quicktime.
