if has abs then each wheel has a speed sensor, if no abs then its calculated from speedo cable into instrument.

so car will no how fast its goin from speedo cable and if this is not joined correctly then engine mangement light will come on? if so then i think iv just found my problem as my eml is coming on and then if i go to stop in 2nd gear the car will cut out

Yeah ECU needs speedo feed from the box.
