Recently it has developed a problem where the CPU useage shoots upto 100% for a couple of seconds every 30 seconds or so, and as you can imagine playing games, watching films even browings the net/scrolling through web pages or typing messages on MSN or forums (like this one) get's very very annoying when it locks up - so possibly problems/soloutions pls?
When I look in task manager it is the services.exe which is causing it, but it's a essential program and can't be shut down, I've also noticed that when I first bootup if I goto 'My Computer' it takes ages for it to show me what drives are connected etc etc - It's almost as if it's waiting for something to execute or fail before it moves on.
Any ideas gratefully recieved before this damn PC becomes and expensive garden ornament!
Basic spec:
AMD Athlon64 XP3500 CPU (Single core)
Asus A8N standard mobo (socket 939)
4x512GB ddr400 ram
Hyper 550w PSU
2x Asus nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Gfx cards (PCI-E SLI mode)
Maxtor 120GB HDD (C drive)
Samsung 240GB HDD (D drive)
MSI DVD-RW
Sony CD-RW
Not been overclocked or played with.
I have Hijack This! if anyone knows how to read it and understand it?
Cheers
Jules

Forgot to say that I use AVG and Zone Alarm, I've scanned for virus's and spyware (using AVG and Spybot S&D) and it came up clean.

AVG is the virus scanner picking them up.

Sorry, yeah - AVG is anti-virus-guard.
