Got to be done imo just a couple of minutes. Not scared to redline that's why it's there. I'd also say that people who are old etc and don't ever go above 3k aren't doing the car much good anyway especially if it's a vaux it'll get all chocked up.

it will take a while for your oil to warm up and this takes longer than your water.

i always wait til my temp gage is on 90 before giving it some. But the thing which annoys me is if u have someone trying to race ya, sitting on ur arse, and u cant nail it till ur engine is warmed up.
Turbo'd cars need time to warm up!!

let my old car warm up until the auto choke went off and never really took it above 3k for the first few miles.

I live about half a mile from the motorway which I use everyday I have to sit on my drive looking abit odd waiting for the car to get to a decent temp

Back home it's 30 seconds from the dual carriageway, I always look a fool waiting for a massive gap in the traffic so I can get on and speed up slowly (there's not a sliproad for my junction). My Mum's car is great, straight on, give it some stick, ECU sticks the glowplugs on and it's at a safe temperature before you hit 70.
