what the fuck?

One of the observations i've made while sitting at my local train station at 5:30am is that some people rev their engines before they turn it off. Ok I've only seen two do it but I still think its weird. The first car as a shitheap mk1 Punto, and the other was a 3.2 Audi TT.

What am I missing here?

sends unburnt fuel into the cat if u have one which is bad for it. Its cardinal sin to do it on a turbo car, best way to shorten the turbos life

Doesn't do much on modern stuff. Used to be a way of emptying the carb so you didn't flood the car next time you started. Can't see a Punto flooding somehow.

You do it on aircraft engines, you never let the engine idle or the plugs foul so you always set the throttle to about 1200rpm. I doubt there are any road cars where you actually have to do similar, it would be a very very very poor design if you did in my opinion.
