paperclip test will only work with EML bulb working

it could be the cut off switch that cuts the fuel off in the event of a crash / when the throttle is not pressed down ... maybe your holding the pedal at the point were it restricts the fuel causing the cut off switch to come on & off if you get me :S

or maybe im talkin poo lol

My 1.6 is currently having repairs done on it. Was having some simalar problems that your experiencing.

It's having a lot of work done to it, new fuel pump, injectors. Also the head is getting machined and new seals going in.

One of the most interesting things was, that the car had been overheating and you couldn't tell. Some stupid mechanic had tried to fix a coolant issue and not plugged the sensor back in correctly. Luckily the bottom end was alright and no damage was done to the car in result.

So maybe check that?
