They don't need light, as it's done by IR.

They have just announced that they are going to start using them at night round here cos at the moment they only use them between 8 in the morning and 6 at night. Now they have bought new types of cameras that can work in the dark

They dont need evidence of who is driving, you might find this strange, but they dont use the photo to see who is driving, the photo is there to show you the time, speed, and location of where this offence happend. The plate is refelctive, so..... I guess thats not a problem, with street lighting around

Ah right so they can only sit where there are speed camera signs then, hmm makes you wander why they were there then cause there are no signs anywhere.

thats what i thought til i read this on my local partnership site
quote: To be considered for inclusion within the national road safety camera programme and the associated cost recovery process within England and Wales, Partnerships are required to follow the rules and guidelines shown below:
The static camera housings must be yellow
The cameras must be visible, not hidden, from 60m in 40mph or less areas and 100m elsewhere
Mobile operators must wear high visibility clothing when operating outside of the vehicle
The enforcement vehicles must be clearly marked
There must be camera warning signs no more than 1km before fixed camera housings and at the beginning of a targeted route for mobile enforcement sites.
Signs must only be installed where enforcement takes place
Site locations must be widely publicised.
Whilst we strive to adhere to these rules and guidelines at all times, it is important to appreciate that they are not statutory requirements and, as such, non-compliance does not provide for any mitigation or defence for an offence committed by a driver in breach of current UK law.
so basically that disclaimer says if they havent followed the rules they can still do u
