...only difference being it's P4 3GHz and doesn't have the Geforce card, but they're only a few bob on the bay anyway.

i would go for a Pentium D
Dell does the Geforce 7300

Upto now I have owned 6 Dell systems and always delivers what you are looking for...
The current 3 days deal is just great atm...the Dell 5150c is cool but i'm looking forward for the 9150
BTW if you already have a proper monitor, don't do it online, phone them and tell them you need only the CPU will save you some £100-150

dells are good for work, but i havent been that impressed with them for home from what iv seen, upgrading them is near impossible as most of the components are designed for dell meaning you cant replace them as they are different.
So basically, good for office wher your likely to chuck them out in 3 years, but for home? if your plannig on keeping it and upgrading it then no

I have upgraded some without any problems...
it depends on what kind of upgrade....normally if you buy a good spec one...you won't need to upgrade it until 2-3 after that and that would mean getting another one...

Much cheaper to buy a system off the likes of Dell than have one custom built.

In 3 years time the only bits you'd want to keep are maybe optical drives, hard drive and maybe memory.
Probably not any of them though.

I bought my Dell PC (base unit only) secondhand off eBay for £75!
Although it's only a P4 1.6, 256Mb RAM and 20Gb HDD with Win 2000 Pro installed...

well the main problems are motherboards in my experiences, and usually if you need to upgrade to the latest processor you need to change the motherboard so catch 22

as John stated, in 3 yrs time, intel might already have got Pentium Z...LOL....so i wouldnt bother upgrading it,better get a new one keeping the optical drives
getting a 3.2 Ghz or Pentium D with 1024 RAM (yes, this oone needs some free slots for possible upgrade...esp with Vista coming) would allow at least 3 yrs usage without upgrading esp for home use

If you're going to be gaming on that machine, don't get a 6200SE......if your budget is small-ish, go for either the 6600 or 6800 (GT, if you can stretch to it).
