Just come off the phone from Someone at Vauxhall. Im thinkin about converting my corsa sport into a 2litre. I was thinkin on the C20XE or LET but this person said im best to go for the 2 litre 8v out of a Calibra. I was told that the XE's have a risk of cylinder head goin/warped if not ventilated properly and there tends to be a lot of problems with them as the ecu and wiring is in the heart of the engine. Was also told that the 2 litre 8v is easier to work on and modify and can get very good performance out of it.

So what do people think: Redtop C20XE 16v or 2 litre 8v???

Cheers guys

Well you're looking at a potential 30bhp differance for starter's, and as far as I'm aware the 16v is a lot better for tuning. If you get the 8v you'll probably wish you got a 16v later on!

The 8 valve can take the limiter all day but providing you look after the C20XE it should be better. 35bhp difference to start off with aswell which isn't to be sniffed at.

130bhp models of 2l 8v can be picked up for not allot of money, and are allot quicker than you'd think.

they are very good engines and have much less problems than the 16v and in general easier to fix from what ive heard.

dont put of the 8v idea just because people say not

i thought that the 8valve engine's gave alot less trouble as regard's sensors and the sort compared to the c20xe. I know that my father's x20xev is alway's throwing up sensor faults, altough i know this is'nt the same as the c20xe, but similar with the sensor end of things i think

You wouldn't be disappointed with a 2.0 8v installation mate, are a very relaible engine and easily tuneable to red top performance, also if you choose to go down the red top route later on when you get a few years no claims behind you most the hard work is already done so will make am easy swap.

He can drive anything he just said so basically insurance isn't an issue...

Go for the C20XE. 8 valve may be more reliable but the redtop aint bad if looked after.

I would be very surprised if fleet insurance actually covers you for any car with any modification at any age.
