Have you tried the expansion tank cap yet? If that's duff it allows the coolant to boil off, and at a lower temp than normal too. You have classic symptoms. But I could be wrong!

as you look at the car it would be on the bottom left of the radiator / or on the driverside at the bottom

not sure what model he has or which model you have but on the corsas i have thats were it is an i used an adjustable spanner no torx bits needed

it wont be the icv or throttle body some of the answers people give on here crack me up.

i would check that the thermostat is working as people have said. take it out (its located in a housing under the rad top pipe on the left hand side of the engine bay) drop it into boiling water and see if it opens.

if thats ok then check for an airlock. search for 'airlock under my username, ive explained how to do it a few times.

if the fan is cutting in then it probably isnt the fan switch (in the bottom of the rad on the left hand side) but worth checking anyway, put it into a pan of water at about 60 degrees and test to see if it goes open circuit with a set of multimeters when water is heated up to boiling. fan switches usually work or not work but ive had a few with intermittent switching faults.

other than that it may be low on coolant, have a partially blocked rad, head gasket failiure or blocked pipe somewhere.

unlikely to be coolant cap either, but worth a check.
