Now im no expert at photography but iv picked up a few tips about shooting black cars, and having seen some truley awful photos of black cars on here lately I thought id just share a few basics to watch out for when shooting them.
1. (thanks to Ross for this) You need diffuse light, do not shoot in midday on a sunny day, although you may think it looks like perfect weather/lighting it isnt. The best times are early morning and late evening. Dusk on nice summers evening is perfect.
2. If you have to shoot with the sun out, do not shoot with the sun directly behind the car. You will get this effect. (Sorry Paul, not saying your a bad photographer but this picture shows the effect im trying to point out)
Also avoid photographing the car on dark surfaces/backgrounds that are likely to blend in the with the car
3. Avoid reflections, and direct sunlight off the panels, this will cause over exposure a ruin the photo
Heres another example of this
Try to get below the reflections, or work around them as best as possible, again working in diffuse light will reduce or eliminate this.
Obviously if you have the cash and equipment, investing in a polariser will help.

Can you put up some examples of good photos of black cars so I can see what I should be aiming for?
This is a picture I took of my car on an October evening last year
I dont have a fancy camera and I'm not particularly into photography so excuse me if its not a very good example

That looks good IMO Matty, angle could be better maybe and the passenger side needs a tad more lighting but its a good one of a black car IMO

The trick is to get light on all sides of the car as the shaded side will be very dark otherwise.
I still love that Civic shot.
