Just wondering if anyone can get trade prices on computer bits?

I am after a 250gb hard drive (IDE) So was wondering what sort of prices people could get them for?

I am looking at this one at the moment:
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=8459&GroupID=478

From what I have read the seagate drives are about the best for both quality and aftermarket support. They have started giving 5 year warrentys now!

Leighton are those prices totals that include the VAT?

£56.39 is the cheapest I can find......Maxtor DiamondMax 10 7200rpm 16MB cache ATA133

Not too far away from you, either, Manchester City Centre......and it's walk-in, you don't need a trade-account.

{edit} Just noticed, your original link was from the same place, Microdirect (very good place), but I'd suggest the Maxtor over the Seagate, purely because the Maxtor is faster (ATA133 over ATA100) and has a larger cache (16MB over 8MB).

though seagate currently have 5 year warranty on their drives compared to 3 years by many other manufacturers - something to bear in mind

Taking things "somewhat" to extremes, in terms of speed, but if they were the same price, would you prefer to buy a Robin Reliant with a 5-year warranty, or a Ferrari F430 with a 3-year warranty?

I've had nothing but trouble from all 3 of my seagate drives over the years. I stick with Maxtor or Western Digital

I use Maxtor now, not had any problems with the 120GB or 250GB in my desktop machine...

Western Digital, though, I had a bad (albeit quite amusing) experience with one of theirs......in four different computers, it registered as: 8GB, 20GB, 32GB, 80GB, 120GB, 128GB, and 160GB......everything but the 200GB it was supposed to be!
