Has anyone done this themselves before? I'm about to do the cambelt/water pump and tensioners etc on my 2000 1.6 sport.

Can anyone answer me a few questions;

Im assuming that the alternator belt must come off to do the cambelt...

The haynes manual says to get the alternator belt off, the tie bar and right hand engine mount must be removed to do this job?

It suggests lowering the engine 50mm with a hoist to enable the alternator belt to be removed? If this has to be done has anyone used a trolley jack on a suitable point underneath?

Thanks

Is the tensioner the pulley that is sort of sat behind the engine mount?

So if i remove the tension using a spanner on the tensioner roller then unhook the belt from the pulleys and then just start on the cambelt?

Many thanks for your help

not unless it has aircon. then the engine mount does need to be removed.

Ive sorted the cambelt/waterpump/tensioners and pulleys.

Before taking the cambelt off I noticed that the waterpump timing marks didn't line up even though all the others were spot on. The belt had never been off so must have been like this from new.

I put the new pump on as per the old one , surely it doesnt matter about the timing marks on it as it doesnt interfere with anything in the engine???

Also, the cambelt tensioner. I set the tension of the cambelt then turned the engine over a full revolution and during the turning the tensioner marker was fluctuating as I turned it. Is this normal and your just meant to set the tension at the position of TDC? All 4 plugs were out by the way.

Thanks
