just gone from a 1.4 sport to a slightly newer 1.6
my 1400 ran at 90 deg constant, whereas my 1.6 runs closer to 95
is this normal (i guess it is cos of the larger engine).
but also noticed it gets hotter a lot lot quicker in slow traffic, my 1400 rarely used the cooling fan but the 1600 is quite often.
is this normal (kinda guess it is cos my bro's 2.0 cally uses fans loaaads)

yeah mate it happens with them all. if you want to get the engine temp down you have to turn your heaters on number 2,3,4 depending on how quick you want it to go back down to 90 degrees again. have your heaters blowing hot air.
or a oil cooler might help

my 1400 sport runs 95 degrees when normal running and hits 97 when gunning it! And thats it sorted as it used to run really hot all the time! turned out to be a stuck thermostat! so your 1600 sounds fine mate!

I Think anyone who has had a 1.4 16v has had a head gasket failure, they split between the water jacket and cylinder on cylinder no 4 usually dont they? I have just gone for a 1.4 16v to a 1.6 16v after heaps hassle with my 1.4. 1.6 runs between 90 and 95 until in traffic then it rises, but the heaters soon take care of that. Cool running thermostat and cool running fan switch are meant to be a wise investment for the Ecotecs

Where can you get a cool running fan switch? I've got a cool running thermostat in my 1.4 Sport and it sits at about 88* when driving normally after about 10 mins sat in traffic then the fan cuts in at about 98*
