 fitted some new discs, pads and calipers to the vehicle....
bedding brakes in? am i right in thinking its simply a case of taking it easy for 300 miles or so and not really using them....?
or do i need to do some fancy stuff

Take it easy for a bit, use them progressivley and build up to some harsher braking.

dont use them for at least 70 miles then they have worn into the caliper then use them sam

 thanks ben... i can't not brake for 70 miles tho i've already braked but ever so lightly... except this morning but that was only slightly heavy....
I'll just take it easy i think for a while.... how do they wear into the calipers exactly?

What discs and pads did you get? Have you upgraded to 2.0 16V one's?

It's brand new red dot 6 groove disks and pads for 2 litre 16v ate brakes and a pair of used 2 litre 16v ate calipers

It just takes time for the smooth disc and pad surfaces to roughen up sufficiently to create the optimum level of friction and hence stopping power... did that sound ok ?

driving in traffic to and from work... normal braking just lots of it

Sounds like what i have minus the red dot disks and pads
I love my brakes, they saved me yesterday when a idiot decided to turn as i was half way overtaking them when he pulled over

i love mine... the car stops now. Has made a dodgy passenger side tie bar bush more apparent though

what the fuck is not using them for 70 miles going to achieve? are you sure its 70, not 73?
All you are trying to achieve is to get the disk and pad faces to be matching but opposite shapes (neither is ever flat) this gives you a big contact patch.
Dont use them overly lightly and drag them or you will glaze them and theyll perform terribly, but dont hammer them from a ton or they will get too hot.
Just use them normally, avoid emergency stops and driving like a loon braking hard into corners.

was pulling ya plonker sambo, not braking for 70 miles
just use your brakes as normal, it's always good to lightly press your brake quite a bit before stopping ( as in make the pads and disc touch but not stop ) and gradually grind to a halt, after a while they will be bedded in and you wont have any squeeks or squeels ( if you have them ) and your brakes should feel nice and tight.

they've been all copper greased up and done beautifully no squeeks or squeels wat so ever they definately feel better than my last and i think as most have said with time they're just gonna get better....
i intend to just use them normally but a little bit lighter at first as ben & alistairolsen said sounds spot on

Use engine braking more, good tip anyway even if you don't have new brakes to bed in!

just drive sensibly for 100 miles and dont go for a blast down your favourite b road! Its not like you have to use them lightly or anything, just avoid really heavy use that will pile heat into them!

my car sadly doesn't go for blast's so thats not an issue
i'm well aware of engine braking but this is a 1.2 16v it doesn't really do much justice from 30mph
