I can't see any glaring reason why it went bang tbh Impreza's are sometimes prone to going bang but thats sometimes due to lack of air getting to the intercooler, so unless it was being starved on the rr I ain't got a clue mate it another sti lump going in?

My MY00 UK Turbo does 22mpg driving to and from work. I can get 29mpg on a run. They're quoted as 25mpg combined cycle. Service schedule for mine is every 6 months or 7500miles, whichever comes first. The time always comes round first for me as I don't do many miles. An interim service costs me around £80-90 and I provide my own oil. A major service costs me £425. MAF sensors are an issue on MY00 models and mine cost £225 to replace. A set of Subaru front pads for 4 pot calipers cost me £110.

New age models ie 2001 on, Bugeye and Blobeye models have less strict service schedules and are serviced every 10k. They're also more solidly built with much nicer interiors. They do however lack the punch the "Classic" had and have a much smoother progressive power delivery.

Budget well and you shouldn't really have any problems.

Its gets serviced by me....
Just had to get new clutch, flywheel, suspension, bushes/arb etc - about 2.5k

4 tyres lasted a year and 10k miles or so.

frig me it aint that bad on petrol then, i spend 120 a month on a 1.4 corsa c

its pretty run of the mill running costs for a 'performace' car.

A UK spec WRX '03 or so will be alot cheaper to run/maintain

Fucked engine is normally cosed by det, invest in a knock link and at least u will know whats happenin det wise, if these cars have been maped over 320bhp like mine has then u need to run octane booster to supress det or else it will be melted piston time... Mine goes through petrol like its going outta fashion i get 170 miles to 40 quid, mazin mazin cars though and i love mines to bits... if ur wallet can take it then go for it, if not then invest in an m3 evo

Most i can hope to squeeze on long distance off boost driving is 270 miles. Mind you i have an sti type R box with the super short ratios thus no cruising gear at all.

Best i can squeeze around town without driving silly is about 170.

I get about 120miles to a full tank. That's mostly driving like it's a stolen car.

The Jap WRXs's have a smaller tank than the UK Scoobies too tho. Mine only has a 40ltr tank.
