Ive got a set of component speakers, and a 50x4 w headunit. The speakers are around 90w rms, and i set the headunit to the front at about 3. But i can't have it too loud as the speakers start distorting, surely with the speakers able to handle 90w and the unit sending out 50w to each speaker there shouldn't be a problem?
What can i do to solve it?
Hope ive explained it all clear enough, cheers.

the 50x4 off the headunit is normally the peak value is it not? which equates to about 20watts rms.
From what i know speakers distort if you underpower them. I would say buy a 2 channel amp (100watts x 2) and amp them as you will be able to get a lot more volume without any distortion.

To get decent sound you need to amp the speakers. Headunits simply do not give clean signals when you turn the volume up. Its not your speakers that are at fault, your headunit will be sending a clipped signal to them. This can damage your speakers if you do it a lot.

Unless you go second hand, you won't find much better than that for that price
