finished the gsi last week after putting an XE in then had smoke coming from the dasboard found that the battery light circuit was fried, now the bloody thing wont charge and cant figure out why......
any help would be grateful

possibly the alternator, that may have caused the circuit to go aswell
and possibly you have missed an earth off or a wire to it

Same happend on mine.
I ran the loom under the altenator bracket. It wore through and earthed on the altenator.
Day of driving to Germany, the lot decided to go up, taking the whole inside loom with it. Smoke and nastyness...
Been re-wired, but its still not right. Needing a whole dash loom instead....
