I've got a new works computer and my email wont work with Microsoft Outlook as its not been set up.

I want to set it up but I'm not sure how. All I know is my email address basically

We are only a small office so we dont have an I.T. person to do this sort of stuff.

Anyone able to help?

Ok you will need to find out whether you use POP3 or exchange, if your on POP3 tthen you will need to find out the incoming and outing mailserver (from your ISP)

then go to Tools > Accounts and setup a new POP3 account with the server names and your user details.

If I were to go on my old computer would I be able to find out the information from that?

Only problem is my old computer used to receive emails but wouldn't send them so might end up with the same problem

Yes go into tools>email accounts>view or change exisiting accounts, then click change on the email account in question and make a note of everything on that screen then report back

right...

POP3 server
incoming mail server (POP3): mail.btinternet.com
outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.btinternet.com

I put this information into Outlook on my new PC and then do a test and it comes with a box that says Enter Network Password.

Then this message when I press cancel:
Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Outlook could not connect to the incoming POP3 mail server because the server did not accept your username or password.

incomming and outgoing shouldnt be the same?

you probally wasnt able to send email as you didnt have the correct SMTP server, you need to have the connectivitys SMTP server in there.

I'll have to have a look on someone elses computer at lunchtime and see what settings he has for his outgoing and incoming servers as mine should be the same as his I suppose? All our emails end with @burgessroughton.com and have our 1st names infront of that.

Just had a look and he has mail.btinternet.com for both his incoming mail and outgoing mail and his works fine?

the incoeming and outgoing is ok to be the same, they jsut differ in pop3 and smtp.

Your on a network i take it?

Does nobody knw the pw?

Yes on a network.

I thought I knew the network password but obviously I dont Will have to see if someone else knows it

think I have worked it out now.

did a test and it said its working.

but have sent an email to my corsasport address from my work one and also sent an email from my corsasport address to my work one and have received neither

If it collects the mail and doesn't give an error then its authenticated OK.

The CS stuff will take 15 minutes or so while it does the spam checks, which it only does once while its unfamiliar with the remote server.

I've sorted it out now thanks Wasn't quite set up right.

Just needed to make a few minor changes and now it all works fine
