When i come upto a junction/traffic lights i go to 2nd gear slow down and go into first gear and break then the battery light flashes and then the car chugs as if its going to stall, (it has stalled a few times) the battery is quite new so could this be the alternator on the way out?

The engine is almost stalling. It's a problem with it idling. There will be no problem with the battery or the alternator.

There is an Idle Control Valve. Though the speed that the car idles at is electronicly set and the engine sensors make it idle. However, you can remove the ICV and clean it out with some carb cleaner or WD40. They can get a bit sticky in thier old age.
What engie are we talking about here?

Yea, I would take the ICV off and give it a clean out. See if that solves the problem first off. I don't know how to remove it on a 1.0. Though it should attach to the bottom of the inlet manifold. Your best bet is to look in a Haynes manula if they do one which covers the 1.0 Corsa and see what that says. Failing that do a search on here as it might pull something up.
Are you getting an orange fault light up at all on the dash while the engine is running?

Probably about £30-£40. Though I wouldn't buy one unless you know for a fact that that is the fault!

Ah there you go. You have an electrical fault somewhere. Best bet is to get it fault tested by Vauxhall, they should be able to tell you what needs replacing or repairing by doing a diagnostic on the ECU.
