well and truly shafted!
Noticed me car had uber low oil level so decided to get an oil filter change, i needed to take it somewhere this morning for work reasons, found a place called "The VW Centre" asked for just an oil/filter change, didnt think to ask how much it would cost.
Went to pick it up and the women was going "Ok weve given it a lube service"
At this point i though, ok fancy name for oil/filter change then.
She then said
"Weve checked all the gearbox oil levels and all other lube levels."
I thought, I didnt ask for that but ok carry on.
She drew up the bill and said that will be £90 please, i thought WTF, I said I didnt ask for all that other crap i just want an oil/filter change, at SEAT its only £65 so i said how the fuck can you charge me £90!!!
She said ok for this time we'l just charge you parts and labour, which was
Oil £19 - ok
Filter £5 - ok
Labour £40 (1 hour)
all plus VAT still made the bill £75
nothing really I could but pay, id normally do it myself but didnt mind paying like 40 quid purely because i couldnt be arsed to do it,
oh well lessons learnt, dont get spanners monkeys to do work on your car

So its not just official dealers that take the piss.
That makes the whole argument in the other thread fall apart.

Thats a bit of a no brainer,
You can get a cheap oil change from franchise Vaux / VW just like you can indepandant ATS / National. Both offering the same service.
Which would you take....neither!!! Oil is very important if you value your cars internals....I would never scrimp.
Back street garage supplying the oil & filter is best solution

Quantum stuff is pretty good, thats what we usually use. Was it the 5w - 30 fully synthetic? Still at our gare would be about 40 quid even with that oil.

Well Rachels £146 quid service included a oil change, new oil filter, new oil, engine flush
No spark plugs, no pollen filter
All she got for her time was a stamp in the book.
