About 2.5k to spend, up to insurance group 14.
About as fast as a 106 gti/ saxo vts. Nothing too old...
Ideas please?

A 2.0 16v Corsa. I think it is group 14 & you will easy get one foe 2.5k. Faster than a GTi as well.

Golf VR6.
will be easier to insure than a 106, even though its a higher ins group

a 2.0 16v corsa doesnt have an insurance grp and is barely faster than a 106gti

for once, I agree with steve on this one.
I would have a 106 gti over a 2 litre corsa. the 2 litre is a fair bit quicker than the 106 in a straight line but the handling is shite compared to the 106.

Well when I asked what insurance group my 2.0 Corsa would be, they said 14. So I'm only going on what I got told. I think they are quicker.
As for handling, you can make a Corsa handle just as good as a 106 no bother.

thats just what that particular ins company classed it as, it will differ
the fact is you have to spend money on the corsa to get it to handle only as good, why not buy a 106 to get it to handle as good in the first place with no money spent

you won't make a corsa handle like a 106 anyway.
the reason the 106 (and most french hatches) handle so well is because of the torsion bar on the rear.
you can't make a swing arm act the same as a torsion bar, so the corsa will always suffer.
and the corsa is heavier, and has worse weight distribution.
