ok..i took my waterpump off the block before i sent it off to be cleaned etc..
but during the cleaning process they cleaned my tip-pex marks off

roughly where does the pump sit?......does the lug by the 'jiggle hole' point vertically upward?

why are you doing timing marks on a waterpump??

the waterpump does have a timing mak on it, cant remember exactly what they are, its in the haynes manual tho.

id imagine there is a mark for the fitting process yes, but from the description i assumed he meant the pulley itself not the base of the pump.

it does'nt matter about timing on the water pump

not timing exactly.....just the position of it..
the BASE is eccentric....is it actually adjustable like the early 8v engines?

erm, yes it does, and a lot as well. if you dont position the water pump correctly then the tension that you set using tensioner marks will be incorrect

its doesnt matter that much... dont be such an alarmist..

ive done several 16v belts and pumps now with no problems...

position the wheel at the back of the water pump roughly at the hole inside the block were the water comes out/goes in.... some pumps have a mark on them.... read you haynes... should get the required tension on the tensioner then

well, if its positioned in the wrong position and you are building a performance, high revving engine the cambelt tension must be exact. if not at high revs the tensioner can spring back quickly and there goes your engine.

If you are going to do a job, do it properly.

theres about 30 degrees of eccentric movement in the water pump......ill put the belt on then adjust it afterwars i think
