My partners Tigra has gone wrong. Ive just this minute got home from work, had a listen to it. Its only running on 3 cylinders by the sound and feel of it, also there is a ticking nosie comming from somewhere but was too dark to tell. To me the ticking is running at the same pace as the spark plugs would. The neighbour has fitted new plugs and leads but no joy! Anyone got any info that might help?

could be hundreds of things.
first thing is to find which cylinder is down by pulling 1 lead off at a time, you will know you have the right one as the engine note wont change. then check if you have a spark by removing the lead and plugging in a spark plug into it (one of the ones you replaced. LEAVE THE ONE IN THE ENGINE IN THERE) and holding the metal part of the plug against an earth, run the engine and see if it sparks. if it does then that rules out an electrical fault.
at this point you should see if fuel is getting into that cylinder by running the engine for 30 secs and taking out the plug from the relevant cylinder. if its wet and smells of petrol then you have fuel.
the set-up on the inlets of these engines means you will always have air so the next step is to put it all back together, give it a try and it might be ok.
if not then a compression test is needed to determine wether you have compression. if you dont then its gonna be expensive.
