has anybody driven any of the new diesel engines from vauxhall?
Im looking at a 1.9 CDTI astra and was wondering what to expect if i take it for a test drive.
are they loud or relativly quiet, nice drive etc...

bit of both really depends on what revs etc, if you go for one get the sport one with 150 bhp the go like f**k and dont really go wrong

Not really too loud. Not bad to drive, what model, SRI? 120 or 150 BHP? The 120 does'nt feel too quick, 150 is quickish but its one big dump of power, not particularly smooth delivery.

Definitely the 150, the 120 is just an 8V engine. Both are originally FIAT.

well yeah if i get one i want the 150, so seems like most of you think they're good engines, and they can always be tunned if needed can't they?

smoking diesel can be down to a blocked air filter and bad maintainence, my van has done about 60k and puts out a puff off smoke on startup and thats it
never at any other time.
td's will smoke a bit as they are using a turbo, but still. keeping it serviced and in good state of tune will keep it to a minimum

so if you keep on top of it (Service it regular) then the smoke should keep to a minimum.
im going to look at an astra at the weekend which is a 1.9CDTI only one problem, which is im not sure about the colour of it.

Smoking from turbo diesels are due to people booting it. Not much you can really do about it, especially now the newer diesels are running higher boost, so have more lag. Just something you have to live with .

personally i would rather a 2.0t petrol astra but it would have to be the 200bhp model as the 170bhp wouldnt be worth going for over the 150bhp cdti.

the 170 petty is actually quite good got enough power tbh, obviously the 197 is better depends on cost difference really
