he normal oil weight for a 1.2 16v is 10w40. However, I think the engine sounds a little bit tappy now. It's covered 70k and I'm going to be servicing it in a couple of weeks. Would it case any damage to the engine putting in 15w40 in instead, and more importantly, would it do the engine any good?
Please, do not answer if you have the following to say:
Tell me how much you like Fords
Tell me how much you like Astra VXR's
Tell me about your dad's BMW
Or tell me how to warm my car up.
I would like a sensible answer from somone who knows what they are talking about on this topic.

Mine responded well to the high mileage oil of the same viscosity, really quietened it down. It does have 40k on yours though

I might try that stuff, even though it is intended for 70k+ engines. I actually don't think that the GM oil everyone raves on about is particuly good. It doesn't last very long before it needs changing, certainly not in hot weather too.

I always use 15w 40 one C20XE's as tappets are worn on old engines, IF so need thicker oil to get the same affect as the 10w40 is says in the book as they are all recommended on new engine
If anything use your 10w 40 and ask at your local motorspares for somthing called "Greaselightning" its stops all top end tapping.
OR
replace tappets and use 10w40

You obviously didn't see what people did to the first attempt at getting some help
