When do i need to service my car i only just realised i have done over 9000 miles in a year as my insurance is due up soon. Im not sure when the service was last done and would it be easier to do it myself or take to garage and get them to do it. (car is 99 1.2 sxi)

cheers

At our garage, we recommend 1 year or 10,000 miles. Whichever is first. Corsa's are relatively straight forward to service if your confident, if your not too sure maybe better going to a garage.

Yup, that is the servicing schedule, 10k miles or 1 year, which ever comes first.

Well thats a very basic service. Normally what you do.

Check all lights
Check all levels under bonnet, coolant screenwash etc.
Change oil+filter
Check front and rear brakes
Check all tyres and pressures
Change Air filter, fuel filter, plugs if you want to go that far.
Replace anything else that is worn/broke.

Thats the basics, obviously give the car a good check over. Check all suspension parts, brake pipes/hoses etc.

An MOT will only test how safe, effective the car is.

For example, if the front brakes brake correctly and sufficiently, it'll pass. However it doesn't check to see how worn they are if you get my drift.

If it fails an MOT due to something, it is obviously a good indication to get it changed.

If you've got your service book it should say what would be done in terms of Vauxhall standards when servicing.

Oh right, yeah, every 10k miles or 1 year - no harm in doing it earlier if you feel it needs doing!

Try and find your service book though if you get it done at a garage, get the all important stamp and ask for an invoice!

The stamp just shows that you have a good service hisotry i.e. the car has been looked after, well maintained. This will indicate to the prospective buyer that you have cared for the car and it will be a worthwhile buy for them etc.

The price all depends on what you have done. Obviously, the more you have done, the more you spend on parts plus more on labour. If you are on a tight budget, don't go to Vauxhall. The average labour rate and a normal garage is about £40 per hour, Vauxhall could charge 2, possibly 3 times more.

I have the number of an excellent guy in Shefford if you want it - u2u me.
