3 core 1.5mm flex will do it. Last time i went to maplins they had a cable section where you can tell them how much you need and they cut it off a reel and charge you per metre.

I thought that as well mate, but as C2RL R said some of them can be connected to the house electrics thus negating the need for a plug.

I thought mine would come with a plug, it didn't though which makes things a bit trickier (especially as I have no clue what I'm doing). I'm sure it'll be easy to sort though.

you can still plug it in tho mate, just get a length of flex and stick a plug on the end.
its just better if you hard wire it.

that's what I'm doing mate gonna run it around the doors and then down into a hole in the wall. The plug socket is just on the other side so it won't have to go far

Where can I buy plugs from?

firstly, the lamp should say 150W on it or something similar.

You can strip the cable with a stanley knife as long as your carefull. I wouldnt bother buying that tool mate coz by the sounds of it you dont do much electrical work so there's no point for one job. A pen knife will be better as its not as sharp so less chance of you damaging the wires. The only other thing you will need is a terminal screwdriver (small flat head).

got a decent screwdriver with loads of bits so that's not a problem. Will just use the stanley to strip the wire

Will find out the wattage when I get home then order the bits online I think (lazy)

it doesn't really matter about the wattage, i was just wonderin. Make sure you take the 13 amp fuse out of the plug and put a 3 amp in.

ok will do.

Why? I don't understand electrics at all, would love to learn but doing jobs like this and others around the house. That's why I was looking at getting a decent wire stripper/crimper.

its maths mate, i think them security lights have either 150w lamps or 300w lamps. divide the wattage by the voltage and that will give you the current draw.
so 150w will be 0.65 amps
300w will be 1.3 amps

both are less than 3amps so it doesnt matter

Can put 150w and 500w bulb in there, think it came supplied with a 150w bulb.

Thanks again
