Right a mate of mine just rang saying that Windows isnt booting up.
for some reason they are still running Win 98
anywho. error message comes up saying :
"EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module EXPLORER.EXE at memory address"
and i understand the fix to be...
1. In Windows 98, boot the computer to the Startup menu and then click Command Prompt Only.
For more information about how to boot your computer to safe mode, please see the following article.
180902 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180902/) How to start a Windows 98-based computer in Safe mode
2. Type the following at the prompt: ren c:\explorer.exe explorer.old, and then press ENTER.
3. Restart the computer
however this isnt working. when you reboot it says about windows not shutting down properly and giving the 6 options of bootup and 25secs to choose.
said to go for safe mode. and the same ol error message comes up again ???
Please help

I would re-install a newer version of windows personally. Saves messing around.

i know its meant to be in geek day. just wanted a faster responce
yeah its a crappy error message. not too acurate
but it happens on bootup of Win98 so i thought that it might have a specific fix.

All depends on if the PC is fast enough for say Windows 2000 or XP! I work with basic systems at work running 98 and they are far from reliable. Break down when someone just looks at them
