Mike Newell will remain manager of Luton Town, despite being 'severely reprimanded' by the club for comments he made on Saturday.
The former Hartlepool United boss launched an astonishing verbal attack on female assistant referee Amy Rayner after Saturday's 3-2 home defeat to Queens Park Rangers.
Newell made headlines for all the wrong reasons after describing the appointment of female officials as 'tokenism, for the politically-correct idiots'.
He subsequently made a public apology to Rayner on Sky Sports News on Monday, despite the Luton board convening for an emergency meeting that day.
The club's board were unhappy with equally scathing comments from Newell regarding Hatters chairman Bill Tomlins after he stated that the club had gone 'backwards' in the past two years under his leadership.
It left the former Everton and Blackburn Rovers hit-man's future at Kenilworth Road in serious doubt, as Newell met with the board on Wednesday.
Despite their displeasure with Newell's comments, Luton have opted to keep Newell in his post as the club's manager.
"As previously advised, the club disassociates itself totally with the comments he (Newell) made regarding the assistant referee, which are completely unacceptable to the club and have accepted the manager's explanation and his subsequent public apology," read a statement on Luton's official website.
"The manager was also asked to explain his comments about the board and he has accepted that his remarks were totally inappropriate.
"The board have severely reprimanded Mike Newell for the comments made and have warned him that any repetition of such conduct will not be tolerated.
"The manager gave the necessary assurances and apologised for the comments he made and would like to thank the board for its support and understanding on this matter."

Why do they feel the need to put former hatlepool united manager. The current luton boss would be better lol.
I am surprised though the board would of had to have major balls to sack him with the climiate as it is.

Guy's a breath of fresh air imo, agents are ruining the game and women do have no right to officiate what is and always has been a mans game.
I believe it's a conspiracy by women to infiltrate the last thing guys have which has not been ruined by them
