they did but that was a fault of sony. it was only on specific models and i think only 2 batteries exploded. they recalled all the dodgy ones and replaced them. i bought a dell inspiron 9300 last christmas and haven't had any probs at all.

I bought myself an Acer and have never had a problem with it in 1 years ownership...there quite cheap too compared to other brands...
Only thing that pisses me off about mine is the battery only lasts 1.5 hours when not plugged into the mains...
