I think I get charged out to clients at £21 an hour.
He could put my client fee up to £25 an hour and pay me £10 an hour quite easily whilst still making profit and covering any costs! I reckon anyway...

CAD technician for Consulting Engineers.
HNC in Civil Engineering - 3.5 years experience.
Earn £14k 
Also use MicroDrainage & PDS (Moss to some), basically do all engineering deisgn work on the civl side, and just give it over to the MD to check & issue. Obviously have meetings with adopting authorites, clients, site enigneers etc.
Think im underpaid
BTW: My charge out rate for clients is £50 an hour!

tiesto you are massively underpaid.. £25k minimum for your job id expect. i rarely go to site, or do the before hand work. all the fine details are given to me by a project manager. im just a cad techy.
but again, depends on area.
where do you live? what your doing on that wage, we'd happily pay you £25k

Anyone on here a CAD technician using AutoCAD?
use both autocad and solid work
What qualifications do you have?
BSc Engineering(Hons)
How big a company do you work for?
small number of employees but have worked for a massive firm and a medium firm
After an idea on how much people are getting paid for this sort of work aswell if people dont mind putting it up on here that is.
used ot get paid alot more than i do now
I've just got my HNC in Civil Engineering, also have an ONC in Building Studies and a City & Guilds in AutoCAD so trying to work out what a reasonable wage would be for me...

i have done my onc/hnc in electro/mechanical engineering and btec in autocad and somat else 4got name but i earn basic 18.5k but last year i took home 28k with overtime/bonus's

I cant vouch for other disciplines, but in the architectural field I pay technologists between 25-27k...they need to work alone without supervision for that.
As`for 'speed' = more pay, that's a bit of a myth tbh
Sure they (speedy people) are out there...but speed usually equals a shite job 
Regarding loafabrets comment about tracers getting £25/h....I can only imagine he was posting from his laptop on the planet mars network

Does seem a lot. Might have been a slight exaggeration. But there is a shit load of money in that field. Also, i'm not talking about being some monkey sitting at a desk putting peoples drawings into computers. This is specialist testing and modification to designs to ensure the final parts don't break, are aerodynamic, or flow fluids correctly. One example is I am in the process of drawing a fuel injector to see if I can get the spray pattern right. Also, the company who do this are paying students £19k this year to do a placement with them, and they are under no obligation to pay them anything - most students get about £10k for thier placement...

when i did my gap year i got paid a decent amount.
thing is as much as i dont mind doing solid works drawings, sitting behind a desk all day every day doing it dosen't apeal to me.
the money is tempting tho!

Thats why I got out of my surveyors job, hated being stuck in an office for 9.5hrs+ a day.
Also some of the expected wages for someone with very little experience is laughable!!
